West Wood walk

Tuesday 21st June 2005

Today's weather: Dry, warm, sunny, 20c
Outlook: Same as today, slightly warmer

I went for a lunch time walk around West Wood, Farley Mount CP today looking for Silver-washed Fritillaries but there was none to be seen. Also the off chance of a early White Admiral but no. Despite the glorious weather we have been having the summer butterflies are not appearing early at all.

Speckled Wood were abundant with the odd Meadow Brown and 1 Red Admiral.

Martin Down 11th June

Toiday I visited Martin Down, one of Hampshires premiere butterfly sites. Leaving home the weather was great, sunny though cool. Driving through the New Forest I could see cloud in the direction I was going. On arriving at Martin the cloud had disappeared and the morning was virtually wall to wall sunshine.

I started in the southern section at 08:00 and a few butterflies were showing as they tried to warm up.
